How to register as self-employed in “Мой налог”

We work under contract with self-employed engineers and sole proprietors (IP). You can register as self-employed on your phone, with no visit to the tax office. In Russia this status is a special tax regime, the professional income tax (NPD).

Who can register

Citizens of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine. If you hold another citizenship, you can work as a sole proprietor (IP) instead: we will discuss it on the call.

What you need

• A smartphone with internet access.
• Your passport and a selfie, which the app takes itself. Or sign in with Gosuslugi, the public services portal. Or your INN (taxpayer number) and the password to your personal taxpayer account.

Step by step

1. Install the Federal Tax Service app “Мой налог” (My Tax) from your phone’s app store. You can also register in the web account on npd.nalog.ru, through Gosuslugi, or in your bank’s app if your bank offers it.
2. Choose how to sign in: with Gosuslugi, with your passport, or with your INN and the password to your personal taxpayer account.
3. If you register with your passport: enter your phone number, scan your passport with the camera and take a selfie right in the app.
4. Choose the region where you work.
5. Confirm the registration. It usually takes a few minutes, and the app shows your INN itself.

Tax and income limit

• 4% on income from individuals and 6% on income from companies and sole proprietors.
• New self-employed taxpayers get a 10,000 ₽ deduction: until it runs out, the rates are lower, 3% instead of 4% and 4% instead of 6%.
• No tax returns: the app calculates the tax itself, and you pay it when you receive the notice.
• The income limit is 2.4 million ₽ a year. Above that, you need to register as a sole proprietor (IP).
